KFC Sundays Branded Pop-Up – Full Restaurant Takeover in NYC
The branded pop up for KFC Sundays was a full-scale transformation of the KFC at 14th Street and Second Avenue, produced with Small Girls PR for National Chicken Sandwich Day on November 9th. The activation was designed as a complete brand takeover pop up, turning an everyday fast-food restaurant into a new dining concept for one day only. NVS Visuals joined the creative process early, and as a result, we were able to guide the concept into a practical plan that could be executed within the tight 14-day window. Throughout the process, our team handled design support, fabrication, graphics, lighting, furniture sourcing, and installation—ensuring everything remained coordinated and on schedule.
Exterior Transformation
To begin, NVS wrapped the entire façade in a 36-foot-wide, 17-foot-tall mural that introduced the Sundays identity at street level. Additionally, we produced a custom spot gloss technique to make the headline text appear three-dimensional, while the matte background created a strong contrast. Furthermore, we fabricated a custom LED marqueethat fully covered the existing KFC signage, allowing the building to feel like an entirely new restaurant from the moment guests arrived. We also installed matte black window film and double-sided LED frames, which helped extend the takeover both inside and outside. As a result, the exterior appeared unified and immersive before guests even entered the space.
Interior Transformation
Inside the restaurant, NVS continued the transformation with a full environmental redesign. To start, we built scenic flats and temporary walls that reshaped the floor plan and created new branded rooms. In addition, we wrapped the counter, installed eight custom LED frames, and applied custom-printed grasscloth wallpaper across the interior. We also wrapped all existing lighting fixtures to shift the mood instantly. On top of that, every table was wrapped in matte black to match the Sundays palette. Finally, we sourced and installed brown leather sectionals, extra seating, and new window treatments, which together created a polished and cohesive aesthetic.
Photo Moment & Guest Experience
Meanwhile, the hero moment of the activation featured a custom-built photo area inspired by a competitor’s well-known billboard. Here, NVS constructed an 8’ × 10’ LED wall looping a moving sky scene. In front of it, we installed a fabricated faux billboard frame and a mounted bench, allowing guests to sit “inside” the billboard. In addition, a self-service photo booth printed images instantly, creating a fun and memorable guest experience. We also fabricated a custom bar for the mixologist, who served themed sodas throughout the event and helped reinforce the Sundays identity.
Strike & Sustainability
Finally, after the one-day activation, the NVS team reverted the entire KFC location to its original condition overnight. All graphics were produced without lamination, which reduced PVC usage and supported a more sustainable approach to large-scale brand takeovers. As a result, the project delivered maximum visual impact while keeping environmental considerations in mind.
